The sweet spot for most babies is right around their first birthday — ideally between 11 and 13 months. At this age, they’re usually steady enough to sit confidently by the cake, curious enough to dig in with their hands (and sometimes their face!), but not yet too mobile to contain.

 

 

A helpful approach many West Valley families use is to select a planning date when your child is 9-10 months old, then book the actual cake smash session for when your child is around 11 months old. This gives you the best chance at securing your preferred date while landing perfectly in the milestone window.
